Touching Junk on Foto Friday

No, this is not the dusty keepsake you find in Grandma’s attic.  This is, after all, Foto Friday (see how the Fs compliment eachother?)

I was in San Francisco working on Wednesday when I came upon this sign.  Well, I didn’t literally come upon the sign, but you know what I mean.

So I saw this sign, and it made me think of this:

And then I thought of the late great George Carlin, and his book Napalm and Silly Putty.  He named it this because humans have invented both.  Putting these two radically revealing inventions on his front cover makes you think.  And this made me think of  juxtaposition  and how humans are affected by it.  For instance, here’s a juxtaposition that makes everybody feel good.

My juxtaposition might have made people feel differently about humans, but at least it made you feel something.  Artists use this method to make us think or piss us off.

Juxtaposition is effective.

It seems like a lot of times, juxtaposition makes you feel more than the separate parts.  For instance, a jar of urine and a cross separately elicit a certain reaction but if you combine them you get some people rioting in the streets.

The same sunny Wednesday in San Francisco, I saw a lady in a running suit smoking a cigarette.

Did she know?

Since it’s Foto Friday, and well, just Friday, I thought I’d leave you with this video by Mayer Hawthorne.  It utilizes juxtaposition.  My wife doesn’t like this video, but likes the song.  My daughter likes the video, and I think she likes the song.  I think the song’s phabulous and like that the artist and director combined smooth R&B with cartoon violence.  The gun play is so fony I don’t think anyone should be too offended.

Some people may think it’s junk.  I hope you think it’s touching.

Does anybody want these tickets I got for the Nob Hill show?

About bestbathroombooks

I run a small publishing company and am presently seeking the funniest, coolest and most marketable ideas to sell in places like Urban Outfitters, Papyrus, college bookstores and independent bookstores in the Humor Sections. Contact me through this blog or better at www.bestbathroombooks.com. There are some talented people out there writing good, funny, conceptual books and blogging some funny stuff. I wish I had time to read more and write more. I have a day gig and do a lot of other things, but blogging helps me stay connected to my laptop and ensures sterility (due to EMF on my testicles) which is great because I've had enough kids. Les

You had me at juxtaposed animals. I couldn’t pay attention to much else after that because from there on out my mind immediately stayed on interspecies phriendships, my phavorite thing second only to juxtaposed phlavors of ice cream.

I think this is the first-ever post I’ve seen dedicated to juxtaposition. Well done one with the warped mind.

I need to read that George Carlin book. I think I will read it while watching Gallagher.
